In case of a NonVac system the workpiece is welded on atmosphere. Thus, the evacuation time becomes redundant. The electron beam generator is equipped with additional pressure stages in order to maintain the high vacuum required in the beam generator. With NonVac systems high welding speeds can be achieved. The possible working distances for welding are very small (approx. 20 mm). This results in heavy soiling of the outlet nozzle. In order to increase the range of electrons on atmosphere the area between the outlet nozzle and the workpiece is purged with helium. Usually, the electron beam generator is moved along the workpiece contour.
