Melt Alloying

The material surface is molten until a depth of max. 10 mm by using an electron beam. In this process the base material fuses with the filler material previously applied on the workpiece to be heated or provided during the process. Thus, an alloy having a new composition is formed in the surface layer.
Surface layers with a small thickness solidify quickly. Therefore, there is not enough time for precipitation processes, which results in the formation of "oversaturated solid solutions" having improved hardness values and wear rates.
