Fully Automatic Systems for Electron Beam Welding of Gearwheels

VW produces gears on complex, fully automatic electron beam systems from pro-beam. These systems are equipped with up to 12 different system components for performing production steps such as automatic loading of parts, optical parts control, washing, flushing, drying, preheating for joining, joining, technologically required preheating for EB welding, cooling, ultrasound testing, axial run-out measuring, brushing and depositing.

The electron beam treatment is carried out at cycle times of between 12 and 25 seconds for one gear component by using single or multi beam technology.

The core component of such a machine system is an electron beam load lock shuttle machine  of type S6. Due to the symmetric heat input the electron beam multi beam technology is particularly suited for minimizing welding distortions and reducing cycle times.
